Some of the most popular music for string orchestra is coupled with seasonally-themed items in the atmospheric setting of a candlelit St Laurence Church. Heart-warming music from Scarlatti to Suk and featuring Bach’s evergreen 3rd Brandenburg Concerto, directed by guest conductor, Maestro Daniele Rosina, followed by mince pies! Mendelssohn’s violin concerto in the hands of Shulah Oliver will be a thrilling and beautiful occasion. But, not content with that, we’re adding two of the most uplifting symphonies ever written, Mozart’s Haffner and Beethoven’s astonishing Seventh, featuring one of the largest orchestras Midland Sinfonia has yet presented!

Following on from last season’s stunning performance of Tchaikovsky, Borodin and Schoenberg, join TMS Music Director Richard Laing with special guests David LePage (leader, Orchestra of the Swan), Eduardo Vassallo (principal cello, CBSO), Cathy Bower (CBSO) and Nick Stringfellow (principal cello, Orchestra of the Swan) for three of the greatest pieces of chamber music ever written.

We will be performing Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous Andante Cantabile, Shostakovich’s powerful 8th quartet, and Schubert’s divine Quintet in C major ~ book early to avoid disappointment!

Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto regularly tops polls of the most popular classical music, and in this concert it’ll be in the expert hands of Keith Slade, director of the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra and a clarinetist of renown. Also in the programme is an effervescent overture and a thrilling dance-like symphony by Mozart, together with Schubert’s sunny Fifth.
