Originally formed by Nigel Morley, the orchestra has established
an enviable reputation for performing superb classical music
of the highest standard. We endeavour to produce a varied
programme to capture the brilliance of live music by the masters
and those deserving inclusion.
This year
we are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Laing
as our new Music Director and principal conductor. Richard
has been part of TMS for many years, firstly as violinist,
and most recently assistant to Nigel, and we look forward
to the renewed vigour that he will bring to the orchestra.
Since
winning the sinfonia ViVA Conducting Scholarship in 2001,
Richard has quickly established a reputation as an exciting
and versatile conductor across Britain and Europe.
Richard
is a conductor and coach in the Department of Vocal and Operatic
Studies, Birmingham Conservatoire, assisting Lionel Friend.
He is Music Director of the Birmingham-based professional
opera company Operamus, Music Director of the Worcestershire
Symphony Orchestra, the Leicester Bach Choir, and the Midlands
Chorale. He is also principal conductor of the Leamington
Chamber Orchestra, and a regular guest conductor with Queen’s
Park Sinfonia, Hallam Sinfonia and the Chandos Symphony Orchestra.
Recent engagements include concerts in Eisenach and Rome,
and conducting the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra.
